Sunday was my birthday. I was 66. I am lucky enough to have a loving husband, a friendly ex-husband, 3 adult children with various partners and a grandchild living here in L.A. We all got together to have lunch and celebrate my 66th birthday and that of my ex- who is 4 days older than I. Our grandson made us the coolest cards. Here’s mine:
I particularly love the “unknown flower”. Elijah is 9. If you look closely you can see he wrote “and Jonathan”.
That’s what I really want to write about. I want to write about knowing what you want and then letting go and allowing the Universe to bring you more than you can imagine.
My son and his partner are not able to have any more children. So last year they enrolled at a local Children’s Center that helps children who need homes and parents who need children. If it is possible, the parents go from fostering of a child who needs care to adopting that child. There are wonderful classes and wonderful support through the Center.
My kids had been waiting just under a year. On December 23rd they received into their arms, their home and their hearts 2-day old Jonathan. We know people wait years to be able to adopt newborns. They waited one year! They are willing to put Jonathan first knowing full well that it is possible some relative may show up to take him away. They know their hearts will hurt but they know hearts don’t really break. It only feels that way. (The chances of their being able adopt Jonathan are about 70-80%.)
I think goals are great. I think New Year’s Resolutions are just that – goals. Goals are tools to help you get what you want. But don’t limit yourself. Imagine exactly what you want and then tell the Universe that you are open to that – plus way, way more that It can come up with. What a year you will have!
