I can’t help it. I have to share with you what my youngest daughter sent me for Mother’s Day:
I hope you’re having exactly the kind of day you want to have on this Mother’s Day. This year is pretty low key. There have been years where I was almost wanting and expecting to catch one of my four kids in forgetting me. How Jewish-mother of me! Which I am.
Not this year. I’m pleased with the love I get and very grateful that I get to have another Mother’s Day to be alive. But just as if the only time you get love is on Valentine’s Day, if all you get is love on Mother’s Day, it isn’t enough. You better figure out how to love yourself well. Our self care makes us better mother’s, children, spouses. And that’s what it’s all about anyway.
Important note: If you’re lucky enough to have parents – even if you aren’t close or frankly don’t like them, find some way to honor them – even if it’s just for giving birth to you.
